Another boosted Mk1 Golf was brought to us to have the downpipe back replaced in a 2.5” mandrel bent system, trying to keep the original look once it was complete. We replicated everything to the customers exact specification. Unlike previous jobs, this old school ride was bagged and therefore we had to thoughtfully fabricate the system so that if it was maxed out there would not be any knocks of thuds.
We decided to start the system with 2 bolt Stainless flanges so that the system could be taken apart easily in the future, keeping it tucked up as high as possible we continued to build the system out of T304 stainless steel 63.5mm mandrel bends up until our bullet style middle silencer. These silencers are perfect for them tight spaces as well as having a unique design which helps reduce the noise as well as speed up the velocity at which the gases escape the exhaust.
The remainder of the middle section was fabricated using x1 CLR bends and 2x CLR bends up until the over axle. Similar to MK2 Golf and Corrado’s the over axle gets really tight especially if the car is lowered, although we had the luxury of a switch to lift the rid up we had to keep in mind any future possibilities of the owner wanting to roll a bit lower. We used unique tools and equipment to hold the pipework an inch from the body and about a fingers gap from the axle (this was at the aired-out position). Ensuring we use sturdy quality rubbers means that at any point thereafter the exhaust will always clear the axle.
The rear section reserved a natural look for this Mk1. The customer wanted the exhaust tip to look fresh yet retro as well as wanting to keep a round silencer. We decided to fabricate our own 2.5” double layered acoustic tailpipe and mirror polish it in-house. The end product was astounding and once again a happy customer drove away content.
